They say a Sunday well spent, brings a week of content. There’s definitely truth in this, and I know because I had a wonderful summer weekend spent at the lake house with my family. Europe has been hit by a heat wave, and Austria certainly isn’t missing out. It’s hot every summer, but it’s not normal for us to have days, if not weeks of 35C. I’m in the midst of writing my dissertation and have noticed a definite decline in productivity during the warmer days, but kind of don’t want this weather to end.
It’s been spent frolicking by the lake, eating melon, swimming, sleeping in the sun and BBQing. What else could you want. Mo was even there to entertain me when things got a bit boring on my donut.
The sunsets at the lake are absolutely magical and worth waiting for every evening.
Sunday was spent in beautiful Salzburg. We were invited to a family celebration, which was located right next to the world-famous Mirabell Palace. It was another scorching hot day, but 33C didn’t stop the tourists from enjoying the tranquility of the flower-filled garden.
After we had finished lunch, Mo and I snuck out for a quick walk through the garden. The garden is incredible, with views overlooking the Festung Hohe Salzburg (Hohensalzburg Castle). Salzburg is filled with lots of historic gems and picturesque sights which I highly recommend you go visit if you’re ever in the neighbourhood.
I quickly realized that the man behind the camera was keen to be photographed as well. He’s a natural in front of the lens 😉
After the obligatory photo shoot we headed back and joined the rest of the party for dessert and coffee before a short drive to the lake for late-afternoon swims.
