Beauty Basket {Winter Update}

Beauty Winter Update {}

Before Spring time rolls round {haha…as if!} I wanted to do another Beauty Basket post, this time highlighting my favorite skin-care products and a few makeup bits for the colder months. If you’re a longtime reader you might remember that I did one of these posts in 2012 and you’ll notice that things have changed quite a bit, and the amount of products has increased a lot!

I won’t go into much detail on every single item, but will not hold back on the things I really love…

Beauty Winter Update {}

I’m not a big make-up wearer. In fact, I only bought my first actual foundation {the YSL Le Teint Touche Éclat}before Christmas. Yet, I still like going to beauty counters and play around with lipsticks, glosses and eye shadows for hours on end. I’ve been using the Garnier Skin Perfector BB Cream when I feel like I need a bit of coverage, without wanting to use proper foundation and it’s worked just fine. But my favorite thing to wear on my face it the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream {I wear it day and night}, followed by the KORA Tinted Day Cream. The tinted cream is extremely dark {similar to a mud mask} but the texture is very light, and somehow once you apply it on your face the darkness miraculously disappears and you are left with a healthy glow. I absolutely love it!

Another one of my favorite products is the RMS Living Luminizer.  I’ve had this for a very long time, but because I don’t use it daily and you only need a very small amount it will last for years. I dab a bit on the top of my cheeks to enhance that glow and it makes you look a bit more awake and creates a healthy complexion.

Before Christmas, when my friend came to visit, I insisted that I show her round the beauty section at Liberty. While she got her makeup done, I walked over to the Hourglass counter and the lady let me use the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder Palette. I was immediately hooked, but told myself that I didn’t need it. Long story short, only a week later I had errands to run and passed a Space NK, so naturally I went in and bought the palette. Since then I pretty much use this all over my face to brighten up my complexion. It’s such a miracle worker. Next on my shopping list will definitely be the new Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blushes.  Another thing I don’t really need….but that’s never stopped me before. Unfortunately the palette was limited edition so it’s no longer available, but single powders can still be purchased.

Another one of my absolute favorite is the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette. I’ve only ever owned one eye shadow palette and I’ve hit pan on most of the colors. Hence, upgrading was the only right thing to do. This palette is quite summery, with lots of pinks and lighter browns. It’s perfect for daytime looks but will also allow you to do a smoky eye with the darker brown and gold shades. The colors are extremely pigmented, very long lasting and just generally extremely pretty. £37 pounds well invested!

If I’m running low on time but still want a bit of color around my eyes then eye shadow pencils are often my go-to. I just pop a bit onto the lids, smudge it with my hands and am good to go. I combine two colors: Clinique Chubby Stick in Lots o’ Latte all over the lid and then the Collection Work the Colour Eyeshadow Pencil in Hot Chocolate in the outer corners.

In terms of hair/shower items I stick to these three items.

  1. Bumble and Bumble Surf Foam Wash Shampoo. This stuff is amazing and creates a beachy hair texture. I occasionally pair it with the Surf Spray if I want a bit more volume.
  2. Moroccan Oil. I’ve been using this for 5 years now and it’s just the best oil for my hair. I use 2 pumps and pat the oil into damp hair. I bought the bottle pictured above  back in September and I still have half the bottle left, so if the price of the 125ml shocks you, you’ll have this for nearly a year!
  3. St. Ives Apricot Face Scrub. This scrub is seriously good value for money. It’s a very gentle face scrub which I use almost every day in the shower. It’s soothing and doesn’t dry out your skin like my other scrubs do. I particularly like using this before applying makeup because your face will appear to be a smooth canvas and foundation will look flawless.

It’s not a makeup product, but still a daily essential: my glasses. My eye sight has gotten so bad over the past year, which is slightly worrying. Without my glasses lectures would be absolute torture so I always have them on me everywhere I go. I think they make quite a cool accessory and wearing them instantly makes me feel so much smarter. The model I currently wear is from Ray Ban.
