As it so happens we naturally navigate towards Westbourne Grove on my birthdays. Every year we find ourselves at one of the street’s many amazing restaurants for the celebratory lunch. This year was no exception and I finally (!!!) got to go to Granger & Co.

Wandering up Westbourne Grove is nothing for hungry creatures. There’s a  wealth of options in restaurants that would satisfy just about any taste bud, but it’s not until you hit house number 175 that you bump into a massive crowd of people queuing up under bright yellow blinds.

That alone is an indication of the food that’s being served.

The restaurant itself is every bloggers dream…..and it doesn’t matter too much what kind of blogger you are.  Large glass fronts {great for beautifully lit photography}, crowds of fashionable people, lovely interior design, mouthwatering desserts and pastries displayed on cake stands at the bar and Aesop soaps in the restroom. It’s simply the all-round perfect atmosphere for a great meal.

The only real drawback about wanting to eat there is the waiting time for a table. Luckily for us, Alex arrived an hour early so he waited by the bar until a table for 5 was available. That spared us a lot of waiting!

But let’s talk about the food.

I’d like to preface this in-depth food discussion by saying that I’m not much of a savory breakfast eater. I tend to go for yogurt and muesli, oatmeal, fruit or pastries…but Granger & Co., you may have made me a savory-breakfast convert.

The girls all went with the full-Aussie breakfast:  sourdough toast, bacon, roast tomato, miso chestnut mushrooms, chipolatas and scrambled eggs…

The best scrambled eggs!!!

With a side of fries!

Before even making an attempt at eating this, I thoroughly analyzed how the eggs were prepared. They were clearly folded, not scrambled. Yet I couldn’t quite wrap my head around how to get them to look like that. We asked our waiter whether he could spill the secret recipe and he very kindly explained the technique. But I think it’s one of those things that you need to see for yourself to fully comprehend.

Alex even went up to one of the restaurant staff and asked whether we could peek into the kitchen for a little tutorial but it was just too busy to have guests wandering through the kitchen.{Honestly, I wouldn’t have wanted Alex, in his hung-over state, anywhere near knives and flames!}

I already look forward to going back to Granger & Co. and eating my way through another Aussie breakfast…although next time I might not be able to resist ordering the fluffy ricotta hotcakes. Those looked pretty delectable too. Until then I’ll be furiously searching video tutorials for any Bill Granger breakfast  recipe I can find and will be working on perfecting my “scrambled eggs making skills” in my own kitchen.

I highly recommend Granger & Co. to anyone who loves a good meal, very generous portions and doesn’t mind waiting in line for a few minutes. Unfortunately they don’t take reservations, so early-risers are in for a treat!

After our food-filled Saturday it was nice to take things easy on Sunday morning. After a quick workout and breakfast in bed, I headed over to Christina and Fraser’s house where an extremely chocolaty treat was waiting for me: chocolate-fudge cake! You bet I ate multiple slices!!

24th birthday

Thank you  to everyone who left me a birthday message. A grand merci to Camille for heading down to London to surprise me and dankeschön Christina for the cake and the most-amazing present a sister could ask for {I will share more details soon!!}

I wish I could have shared my cake with you all, but as you can see, it was just too good to not eat in one sitting!

    Oh, I adore Granger & Co even if you do need to wait a while for a table! Happy Birthday, by the way!
