Holiday Gift Guide

November 22, 2013

Christmas is a mere month away which means it’s the time of year to start thinking about presents. I find myself clueless about what to get for my family every single year. Now that we’re all working or away at University, we’re technically old enough to buy the things we need want ourselves, as opposed to waiting for Christmas for someone to get it for us. Although I really wouldn’t mind celebrating Christmas without gifts, the tree just looks a little bit more festive with some beautifully wrapped presents sparkling underneath. If you’re like me and you find it difficult to find THE perfect little something for your family or friends then this gift guide should help you. No matter who you are trying to gift, I’m sure there something in this post that will guide you in the right direction. I thought I’d post this on a Friday, so you’d have all weekend to do some online shopping.

Let’s begin with the obvious one: gifts for the foodies:

For the Foodies

      1. Kitchenaid Wafflemaker. Waffles make a great alternative to pancakes and a proper waffle iron will be appreciated by most foodies.
      2. Godiva chocolates. Trust me, no will be mad at you for giving them a box of delicious truffles. Another favorite of mine are Hotel Chocolat slabs. Christina just got me one recently.
      3. Le Creuset Cast Iron Casserole. Every well-stocked kitchen should have a proper cast iron pot. This is also great to give as a housewarming present.
      4. Save with Jamie. Jamie Oliver’s cookbooks are filled with beautiful, mouthwatering pictures and are a definite must in every chefs bookshelf. Jamie’s 30-minute meals or Jamie’s 15-minute meals are great alternatives.

For the beauty guru

      1. Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual. A beautiful book full of make-up inspiration.
      2. Eve Lom Eye Cream. This is the eye cream I use for myself and I love it!
      3. Nuxe Rêve de Miel Lip Balm. If I knew that Christina would use something other than Labello on her lips, this would be the lip balm I’d get her. I’ve only heard good things about it.
      4. Dior Lip Glow. This  shade looks great on everyone’s lips, no matter what their skin tone or usual color preferences. Another product which anyone will appreciate is the Dior Crème de Rose Lip Balm.

For the athletes

    1. Lululemon Run with me Toque. For me, a ponytail is the only hairstyle that will withstand the stresses of outdoor running. This however means that I can’t wear a hat. Lululemon has thought one step ahead {as always} and has come up with a cute creation that will keep your ears warm while sporting a ponytail.
    2. Nike Elite Hyper Lite No Show Tab Socks. These socks are my favorite. They are no-show but have a tab at the back which prevent blisters. They also come in a variety of colors.
    3. Nike Running Capris. Cause you can always use another pair of capris for the gym or running.
    4. Bobble. A staple for me. So much more environmentally-friendly than using plastic bottles and super chic in a variety of colors.

Now another idea, which I didn’t know how to fit into the box above, is to pay someone’s fee for a race {marathon, half-marathon, triathlons, etc.}. I can think of at least 2 people who have said that they’d run a half-marathon with me, but never did. If I’d be really mean, I’d just enter them in an upcoming race and use my negotiation skills to persuade them to finally run with…

For the traveller1

    1. Aspinal of London Travel Wallet. Any frequent flyer will appreciate this cute travel wallet to keep travel documents organized. P.S. Aspinal offering 10% off! on Men’s and Women’s ranges online until Monday, November 25th. Check their website for more info!
    2. DIY gift for travellers. Commuters will love this!
    3. Lens for dSLRs. Any avid photographer will appreciate new gear for their camera. My tip: if you don’t know exact details about the camera, then just give someone a voucher or gift cards.
    4. Kate Spade iPad cases. No one makes cute iPad or iPhone cases like Kate Spade. I always find something I like in store or online.

For the fashionista

    1. Grande Bow Heels by Kate Spade. These are some of the cutest heels ever {check out the website for more pics, at your own risk!}. I adore the bow detail and would buy them on a whim if they didn’t come with the price tag. They have the same ones in white in their bridal collection which I may get for myself when the time is right….
    2. Sparkly lutches. A cute clutch is perfect for a New Year’s Eve Gala or party.
    3. Anthropologie Infinity Scarf. What’s winter without a cosy scarf?
    4. Ranger Hat from Anthropolgie. Fedora hats are a fashion staple this season and this one will look great on you during long winter walks.

For men

    1. Bose Earphones. Who doesn’t love listening to music?
    2. Acqua di Parma Showergel. This smells beautiful and is enriched with coconut oil.
    3. Kiehls Lip Balm for Men. Cause men get chapped lips too. {P.S. These are currently on offer so make sure to stock up!}
    4. GTA5 for the XBox or Playstation. Trust me, you won’t go wrong with this one!

For the kids

    1. Joe & Seph’s Popcorn. My favorite popcorn. They make some heavenly creations and kids will love munching on these during winter movie nights at home.
    2. Peanut Butter Maker. Who doesn’t get a thrill out of making their own PB at Whole Foods. Now your kids can make their own at home.
    3. Lego or Duplo. Growing up we loved playing with lego. Not sure whether kids still play with it but I think it’s a nice change to playing games on iPad or smartphones.

For the Home

    1. Colored Flutes by Kate Spade. A touch of color brighten makes everything more stylish.
    2. Apron from Anthropogie. The most glamorous apron ever!
    3. Diptyque. Candles.  Make rooms cosier. I keep a scented candle in my room at all times. Everyone will love a classic diptyque candle.
    4. Cath Kidston Notebook. Everyone needs to take notes somewhere.

As you can see, I’m quite good at finding presents for the general public, now will someone please help me brainstorm gift ideas for my family…
