Food Brands, Monthly Favorites, these are a few of my favorite things

these are a few of my favorite things…{october}

October 31, 2013

I’ve been wanting to do a favorite products series for a very long time but never got round to it.

Expect this to probably be a monthly post where I share mostly food related favorites. I might throw in a beauty product here or there {I am a girl after all} or other bits and pieces that I’ve been loving, but I’m sure you won’t mind.

Also, I am not being paid to write about any of the products. Clearly, the companies I’m mentioning here are doing a pretty good job at marketing their products themselves and don’t need me to endorse them. Just wanted to get that out of the way!

So let’s have a look at what I’ve been loving lately…

The whole world loves Lärabars and I do too. I treated myself to a box of Chocolate Chip Brownie Larabars from iHerb when I needed wanted a bunch of other things and it was my first time trying them. They are heaven in a plastic wrapper! With their few ingredients, astonishingly enough, they really taste like brownies. There are chunks of nuts and whole chocolate chips thrown in so a simple, healthy energy bar is transformed into a delicious treat. I’m so impressed with this flavor that I will certainly order more or another flavor once I’ve eaten them all {which shouldn’t take me too long!}

If however, you live in the UK and don’t want to order from iHerb, I find Cocoa Delight Nakd Bars to be similar. They’re a bit smaller and don’t have chocolate chips in them. I carry one of these in my gym bag at all times and have one before an afternoon workout or run.  I’ve been really impressed with these healthy energy bars and I’m happy to see them at lots of stores now!

If you want to make them yourself, here’s a recipe I can highly recommend 🙂

Moving on…

Everyone knows that I love coffee. However, I won’t just drink any kind. I think Nespresso is the best coffee in the world and they have really revolutionized the art of coffee brewing. The coffee is just incredibly creamy so it doesn’t require foaming milk or anything like that.  My parents have had a machine for years and I loved it so much I gifted myself a machine for my 20th birthday and have been using it ever since.

To give you an example of how foamy the coffee is, this is what it typically looks like.

I always add a bit of milk to the cup before adding the coffee and that way you get a really nice frothy layer on top. Just like you get with lattes from your favorite coffee shop.

I recently ran out of capsules so I placed an online order. For packaging purposes however, the number of capsules has to be a multiple of 50. Although I really wasn’t looking to buy 100 capsules, I only had 70 capsule in make basket so I decided to try the variations. At first I thought these might be seasonal flavors but the website doesn’t specifically say so.

1. Nespresso Ciocattino: If you stick your nose into a cup of this coffee you’ll think it’s hot chocolate. I highly recommend this if you’re a chocolate addict or simply like chocolate-infused coffee drinks like mocha. It does actually have a bit of a chocolatey taste which is always appreciated but isn’t unpleasantly sweet.

2. Nespresso Vanilio. I know there are a quite a few vanilla latte fans out there and I can honestly say that this might be the  capsule for you. This was the first flavor variation I tried and I absolutely loved how you could really detect a difference in taste when comparing it to their standard grand cru range.

3. Nespresso Caramelito. When I first tried this flavor I was speechless, which is a rare phenomenon. I was just blown away by the fact that it actually tasted like caramel. I certainly won’t be having Starbucks’ caramel lattes anytime soon.

I really like all of the above-mentioned flavors but if I’d have to pick then the caramel espresso would be my favorite.

These teas is what brought about this whole post. Every time I come back to the UK I find it so funny how much tea people drink, no matter what the season or what time of day. It’s just their drink. After being surrounded by all these tea-fanatics I have become a bit obsessed myself and have been craving teas in the afternoon and at night. So, I ordered some tea from teapigs.

On a typical day I will have 2 cups of coffee {one with breakfast, another after lunch} and then two pots of tea {one in the mornings, at around 10.30, the other after dinner}. My siblings gave me the above pot for Christmas 2 years ago and it’s really been handy. It fits about 2 cups which is the perfect amount if you ask me.

I ordered from teapigs because their range of teas really appealed to me. All flavors come in little biodegradable tea temples which looks super fancy. Since I’m still deciding on a go-to tea flavor {and was trying not to spend too much money} I ordered a bunch of samples {2 temples per box}. I have already been able to exclude a flavor that sadly didn’t appeal to me: the popcorn tea.

It’s described as a fab japanese treat. So basically, it’s a green tea blended with toasted rice and as you can see from the picture below, it actually has popcorn in the tea temple. I usually like green tea and really wanted to like this flavor, but it just didn’t happen.

On the other hand, I’ve already sampled a ton of teas which I did like. The chocolate flake tea is delicious. It actually contains bits of chocolate which infuse the tea with chocolate-y goodness. I’ll definitely get this one again.

Other flavors which I ordered were the chai tea and the spiced winter fruit {perfect for the colder months leading up to Christmas}, the pure lemongrass and the rooibos crème caramel, because everything tastes better when caramelized.

That’s it for this month. More to come soon {promise!}

And before I forget, Happy Halloween!

    I’ve really been getting into different teas recently – I wasn’t a fan of the popcorn tea either but I’m definitely going to check out some of the other flavours!

      Something about the popcorn tea just didn’t taste right. I’ll be doing a little teapigs giveaway soon with more christmassy flavors, in case you’re interested 🙂
