Croissants with Honey-Roasted Figs, Prosciutto and Poppy-Seed Cream Cheese

Sometimes when I get home from work the last thing I want to do is stand in the kitchen for hours. It’s true, occasionally I avoid the kitchen and just want a meal that requires no cooking whatsoever…. sort of like this Croissant with Honey-Roasted Figs, Prosciutto and Poppy-Seed Cream Cheese requires hardly any work….

The croissant is filled with some of the most interesting and wonderful things that happen to make every bite a real delight. The bottom layer is poppy-seed cream cheese followed by a thin coating of pesto and arugula. On top of that I layered some really good Italian prosciutto and rounded it off with honey-roasted figs and parmesan shavings.

The sweetness of the figs complement the bitterness of the greens perfectly and together with the buttery and flaky croissant it just seems like the most perfect thing you’ll ever eat. Seriously, your ham and cheese sandwich just won’t be able to keep up with this beast, sorry!

Croissants with honey-roasted figs and poppy seed cream cheese

makes 2 croissants

Ingredients:

  • 2 croissants
  • 4 tbsp. cream cheese
  • 1.5 tbsp. poppy seeds
  • 2 figs
  • 2 tbsp. olive oil
  • 1 tbsp. honey
  • pinch of  salt
  • 2-3 tbsp. of pesto
  • handful arugula
  • 4 slices of prosciutto
  • a few shavings of parmesan

Instructions:

Honey-Roasted Figs:

Preheat the oven to 200°C and line a baking sheet with parchment sheet. Cut the figs into thin pieces and lay them out on the baking sheet. In a small bowl mix the olive oil and honey and stir until a thick paste forms. Drizzle onto the figs and add a pinch of salt. Bake for approximately 15 minutes. Allow to cool slightly before assembling the croissant.

Poppy-Seed Cream Cheese:

Mix the cream cheese and poppy seeds until combined.

To assemble the croissant:

Cut the croissant in half and spread a thin layer of the poppy-seed cream cheese onto the bottom half. Top with 1-2 tbsp. of pesto, evenly spread it. Next add a handful of arugula and cover with 2 slices of prosciutto. Top with 3-4 slices of the honey-roasted figs and a sprinkle of parmesan shavings. Top with the other half of the croissant and tuck in!

    This looks like the perfect combination! If I’m treating myself to croissants (my boyfriend loves them!), I usually stuff them with cheese bacon and cranberry sauce, and this is basically the same, but different. I’m definitely trying this combo next time!

    Um, this seems amazing. I love the pictures – AGAIN. And I absolutely adore croissants and need more in my life. I also love the combination of prosciutto and figs – just amazing.
