Refreshing Citrus Smoothie

Lately my Saturday morning’s have been reserved to go swimming. Sometimes my flat mate joins me and then we go to the pool which is conveniently located just up the road. We do about 45 minutes of brisk swimming to really start the day on an active note. To add a bit of relaxation we then go to the outdoor pool which is fully equipped with whirlpool and water “sunbeds” that massage your back and then to top it off we go to the steam room.

All that of course requires energy. I am a huge breakfast fan and need something in my system literally as soon as I wake up. But when I go swimming first thing in the morning I don’t want something that will, quite literally, weigh me down in the pool. In that case smoothies are great option.

I sometimes have green smoothies and would love to keep fresh kale on hand for that matter. However so far I’ve only found kale in it’s frozen form. My co-worker once brought me fresh kale which I converted to kale chips that evening but if I want kale I have to buy it is frozen blocks. Sounds convenient but it’s not. Therefore I stick to fruit smoothies when I want a quick breakfast.

Citrus fruits in general are an excellent addition to your diet and drinking them in delicious concoctions make it even more fun. Sometimes, if I’m very hungry I’ll also have a couple of spoons of natural yoghurt with my smoothie. And if I’m starving I’ll add a spoon or two of oats for some extra fiber. But the smoothie as such is quite filling.

Looking at this recipe is such a tease right now… it reminds me so so much of summer (of course) and my current location is in the northeast of the US. Oh boy there is a WHOLE LOT OF SNOW haha, I would love to be enjoying this smoothie in the warm, sunny weather of summer 🙂 Only a few months away at this point… I will retain that image as I shovel for-ev-er today
Smoothies must be great before swimming, like you said they don’t weigh you down and also give you a nice boost of antioxidants, and some glucose for energy!
Beautiful pictures as always Antonia 🙂

I had a smoothie with two oranges and a handful of strawberries this morning. It was delicious, and I might have drank it alongside a blueberry coffee cake. Mmm, so good.

I used a sauna all the time in Berlin, and I really, really miss it. My gym doesn’t have one, and Americans in general just aren’t really that into it. But I remember it was just so relaxing and cleansing. I could do it every day. Your Saturday routine sounds amazing!
