Applesauce Tiramisu

Before it’s too late to post an apple recipe I would like to share the recipe for this Applesauce Tiramisu. This was Alex’s birthday cake {which explains the simple picture} and I thought the recipe might be of interest to some of you. It calls for 4 ingredients only and there’s hardly any prep work and no baking required at all!!

Apple Sauce Tiramisu

Tiramisu is my absolute favorite cake and I request it for my birthday every year. I love the smooth and creamy texture and being a bit of a coffee lover {understatement of the year} the espresso-dunked ladyfingers just hit the spot! On top of that it involves a dusting of cocoa powder so how can you ever go wrong…?

If you are looking for a lightened yet still indulgent-tasting version of the classic that will please any crowd then this is a recipe for you. Instead of mascarpone, whipped cream is spread on top of apple sauce. I know, whipped cream is not exactly what comes to mind when you think of a “light” cake, but it is a lot more airy than thick mascarpone so you wouldn’t need as much of it per slice as you need of the Italian equivalent….do you like my logical thinking?

So, since I’m sure you’re all sitting on the edge of your seats right now desperately waiting for the recipe, without further ado…

Light Applesauce Tiramisu

makes 1 26cm diameter cake


  • ~50 ladyfingers
  • 250ml heavy cream, whipped
  • 500g unsweetened apple sauce
  • cocoa powder for dusting

  1. Line a cake tin with cling film.
  2. Then arrange a layer of ladyfingers on the bottom. Generously over with apple sauce and on top of that spread a layer of whipped cream.
  3. Repeat 2 more times or until you reach the top of your cake tin. The top layer should be ladyfingers.
  4. When you are done layering, cover the cake with cling film.
  5. Refrigerate the cake for at least 4 hours, preferably over night. When ready to eat flip the cake onto a serving dish, remove the cling film and dust with a thin coating of cocoa powder.

Now that we have the recipe out of the way  it’s time to move on to winter food and Christmas cookies {I’m quite excited for all the recipes and you should be too!!!}…which reminds me, I better check on the cookies currently baking in the oven.
