As already announced in my morning post I have a little something I’d like to giveaway today!!!
Exactly a year ago while everyone was off at work or school I sat down at my computer, googled “how to create a blog” and about 45 minutes later my first post was published. It didn’t take long for me to realize that I wanted to do more with my blog and only 3 months later I found myself in front of the computer again, watched an endless amount of youtube tutorials and managed to create a self-hosted blog. Today, Health Inspirations turns 1! YAY!!!!
When I sit down at my computer to write a post I mostly envision my family reading it. It is a fact that they were my only readers for quite some time and I assume their afternoons and evenings would be dull without this little corner of the web. When people ask me what this blog is about or whether it is a healthy recipes blog I just answer that it is a documentation of my life through food. There is nothing I love more than than getting my hands dirty in the kitchen or reading recipes so creating a food blog seemed to be the right fit. Creating this blog was a very spur-of-the-moment decision and to be honest I hadn’t given thought to the exact content of my website prior to its creation. Did I want to just post recipes, did I want to show what food I ate, would I want to write about my life, health or my eating disorder?
It took me some time to find “my style” of writing but one year later I’m happy with what I’m doing. I have also found a good blogging rhythm that works for me and while I would love to post every single day, sometimes I just don’t find the time. I hope you don’t get as frustrated as my sister when I don’t post for a few days but the good thing is you can always count on me being back at some point…hopefully sooner than later.
Through this blog I keep my family updated on my life and eats when I’m away at Uni in England or working in Munich and can connect to lovely readers from all over the world through one of the best subjects there is: food. In fact, I think blogging would not be the same if I didn’t have loyal reader like you reading and commenting on my posts.
Since this hobby of mine has brought such joy to my life I would like to thank each and every single one of my readers. I wish I could shower all of you in gifts but there is only so much money I can spend on a blog giveaway.
As my birthday giveaway I chose this beautiful Le Creuset marmelade jar which comes with a silicone spreader. I’m sure you all know how much I love my mom’s home-made jams so this just seemed like the perfect gift. It’s from the Le Creuset Kitchen Accessories line and it matches all the wonderful stone cookware the company sells. There’s about ten of those items on my “I can’t live without this” list.
There were so many other accessories that I would have liked to give away but that will have to wait another year!

Of course I can’t babble on about birthdays without wishing my baby brother Moritz a very Happy 18th Birthday. I harassed him with an early morning birthday photo shoot at 6.45am today but being one of kindest and good-tempered guys there is he was totally up for it.
To celebrate in style I spent most of yesterday morning in the kitchen creating this giant Oreo cake. Mo is a serious Oreo lover so it only felt appropriate to go all out this year. His favorite kind is actually the white chocolate covered cookie but I wanted to spare him the heart attack on his birthday. Maybe next year!

My favorite jam is strawberry jam.
I really got into making jam (and jelly and chutney and pickles) only a few years ago, in 2009. Since then I’ve become a bit addicted to it. The husband tries to point out that there’s no more space to store more, so I do my best to give them away to friends (and eat a few) so I can have another day of preserving!

I would love to win this jar! We planted grapevines a couple years ago, and this was the first year we had our concord grapevine flower and produce grapes. The grapes were a bit small, so we let the birds have them. But hopefully, next year they will be bigger, and I can make homemade jam!
