Man, I love Austria!
I really like England too but the reason why I like it in Austria so much is because the meteorologists here seem to constantly mis-predict the weather for the day. We were supposed to have thunderstorms and cool-ish weather today. As you can see, that didn’t really happen. In England the weather forecast is always right so there aren’t really that many pleasant weather-related surprises!
I’ve been toasting in the sun all afternoon. It was glorious! Don’t you just love the smell of sunscreen on your skin?
There’s something so special in the summer, seeing the leaves on the trees in the different shades of green sparkle in the sunlight during a warm summer breeze. Everything smells so fresh and summer foods have never tasted better.
We celebrated the beginning of summer (today’s my first official “summer day”) with ice cream. I saw that a couple of people posted pictures of these ice cream tubs on facebook and when I saw them at the grocery store today I picked some up to see for myself what the hype is about. I had the Milka ice cream, my mom had the Toblerone flavor. They both tasted OK, though I really prefer Italian gelato. We also got the Oreo flavored ice cream for my brother (who is an oreo fanatic) and I’m sure he’s going to love it.
Also, I finally had water melon! I’ve been seeing watermelons pop up on blogs for the last couple of weeks and have wanted some ever since. They happen to be one of my favorite summer fruits so eating watermelon was right on top of my “to-do at home” list.
Our vegetable patch is almost overflowing. The kohlrabi is coming along nicely and I have a feeling you’re going see LOTS of salads in the next couple of weeks.
Strawberries are also one of the reasons I love summer. Or maybe I just love summer because of the strawberries? Either way, breakfast this morning included roasted strawberries. I was inspired by Laurie and Marla, who have both showcased how great strawberries look when they are roasted. One of the reasons I love blogging is because I learn so much from other blogs. Who would have thought that roasting strawberries is even possible or that it intensifies their flavor even more?
This morning I made oatmeal. We didn’t have bananas in the house so I needed to be creative. The only fruit we had left in the fridge were a couple of strawberries so instead of my usual oatmeal I made Roasted-Strawberry Coconut Oatmeal. It was good!
This goes without saying, but the oatmeal can be topped with nut butter or a teaspoon of strawberry jam!
Hope everyone’s looking forward to the weekend.
Don’t forget that today is the last day to enter in my giveaway!!!
