Hello there! Today’s post is going to be somewhat different than the others since I’ll be answering a couple of healthy-living related questions. Shannon posted about a Healthy Living Survey that other bloggers have been doing as well and I thought it would be fun way for you guys to get to know me better! So here we go…
What did you eat for breakfast?
For the last couple of days I’ve had morning exams which means overnight oats. Such a great way to save plenty of time in the morning since your breakfast is already made. I cut in fruit at night as well so all I have to do in the morning is eat. Simple. But, this morning I was craving a bowl of normal oats. I cut in strawberries for an extra kick and topped them off with blackberries and granola.
How much water do you drink each day?
A LOT! I fill up my bobble several times a day but don’t really count the exact amount of water I drink. It probably sums up to around 5 litres if I’d have to guess but it might be less or more depending on how thirsty I am. Generally though, I am really thirsty. The minute I wake up I drink water and often wake up in the middle of night for a couple of sips too.
What is your current favorite workout?
Running! I never thought that running could be this fun but the more you train, the better it gets. But I also really enjoy my “normal” gym workout which consists of strength training, circuit workouts and HIIT workouts.
How many calories do you eat each day?
Don’t know and honestly don’t care. I know that you are meant to only have a certain amount of calories per day but I listen to my body and eat when I’m hungry. I usually have 5-6 meals a day and think that for me that’s the best solution. When I was anorexic things were really different. I weighed all my food, counted calories and exercised only to burn calories not to be healthy. You can read more about me and my struggles here.
What are your favorite healthy snacks?
This always changes. I really like roasted nuts and always have them on my desk whilst studying. I also really enjoy the snacks I get in my Graze box since they’re a mixture of healthy and indulgent. One of my snacks/lunches this week was a PB&J sandwich which I haven’t had in ages. I used crunchy PB, strawberry jam and sliced in half a banana. It was fantastic and the perfect study fuel.
What do you usually eat for lunch?
This varies. If I have the time I will cook myself a proper meal, but sometimes I’ll have salads or sandwiches. In Austria people tend to eat their main meal of the day for lunch and because that’s something I grew up with it’s hard to change the habit. Living in the UK though has definitely influenced my “eating-style” and I now eat my main meal for dinner more often.
This is the Chilli that I made yesterday as a post-“the most terrible exam week of my life is over”-celebratory dinner. Brown rice on the side. Home made chunky guacamole (avocado, lime juice, salt and pepper) on top!
How often do you eat out?
Unfortunately, not that often. I love going to restaurants though because I get inspired by the menu. When I’m in London with my sister or brother we often take advantage of the vast array of restaurants. But at Uni I hardly eat out.
Who is your biggest supporter?
Do you have a gym membership?
Yes I have a membership at the Uni gym.
How many hours of sleep do you get each night?
This week I probably averaged 5 hours which is really bad but I had lots of exams. During normal nights I will sleep at least 7 hours, preferably more!
Do you have a “cheat” day?
First of all I hate the word “cheat” day and I think they’re not beneficial for healthy living. I sometimes don’t understand why people eat clean and exercise during the week but at the weekends forget about their healthy “lifestyle”. I know that many people manage to live like this but from personal experience I can say it’s not the way to go. If you eat healthy the whole week, then stuff yourself with fatty food all weekend long, you are most likely going to “punish” yourself for eating what you did during the week and a vicous cycle begins. I prefer eating everything in moderation and balancing healthy and “unhealthy” foods. If I want chocolate I will have it it an appropriate portion. If it’s someone’s birthday of course I will have cake. People sometimes forget that life needs to be enjoyed. It should not solely revolve around the importance of food. And while I probably spend a lot of time thinking about food since I have a food blog, it doesn’t consume my life. So no, I don’t have “cheat” days.
Do you drink alcohol?
Sometimes. Every 2-3 months probably.
Do you have a workout buddy?
Does my iPhone count?
What was the last healthy thing you did?
I just got back from a 10K run in the sunshine 🙂
Now it’s your turn. Tell me: how much water do you drink? Do you have “cheat” days? What’s your favorite workout?
HAVE A LOVELY FRIDAY!!!
