I am only a week away from my first race and I have to say I am already a tiny bit nervous. As I am writing this post I am watching the Vienna City Marathon on TV. Seeing top runners like Paula Radcliffe who finished the half-marathon in 1:12h or Haile Gebrselassie who ran 21km in under 61 minutes is amazing! It’s so impressive to see athletes run (or rather sprint) races with a pace of 2:50 per km.
It was also great to see how the average runners tackle the race. The marathon in Vienna is a huge event with about 34 000 participants. Luckily, the race next week won’t be as big but I think overall 15 000 people will participate. To give you an impression of the race beforehand, this is where the race will begin next week. It’s already safe to say that it will be a very crowded affair!
In order to be prepared for the race I did lots of running during the past few weeks. My runs weren’t super long (mostly around 6-7.5km) with only a couple of longer runs that I did with my
dad pacemaker at the weekends. And even though running has been my main priority in the past weeks I have not forgotten about the Best Body Bootcamp. I haven’t been following the workout plan for phase 3 as precisely as for the first 2 phases but I always try to do a little weight training after my runs and on the days that I don’t run I will do HIIT workouts which are part of the workout plan.
My little brother also challenged me to an ab-workout last night, which I thought I’d share with you. I am a very competitive person and I hate not being able to do something that my brother can do with ease. So when he suggested I do his ab workout I knew I had to push through till the end.
The particular workout that we did was the Abs Workout. And although I knew that there were workouts available from the AppStore I had no idea how many different workouts you could choose from. I’ll definitely have a look into it and update you if I find something that I really like!
Other than working out I am keeping myself occupied with studying (which isn’t worth writing a lot about) and spending time in the kitchen. My mom is doing most of cooking these days, although I have been in charge of a couple of meals during the last week. One of my favorite things to have is steamed vegetables. So you can imagine how happy I was to have steamed green beans and brussels sprouts with my lunch yesterday. Delicious and flavorful!
I have also been experimenting with my energy bar recipe. Because I had a couple of dates left I re-did the recipe, but instead of forming bars I made bite-size balls for an on-the-go snack.
